THE HAITI MICAH PROJECT
The Haiti Micah Project is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia and is tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Haiti Micah Project (HMP) is an organization founded on and guided by Christian principles, but is not under the auspices of any church or denomination, nor is it affiliated with the governments of Haiti, the United States, or state or local government. In 2009 HMP began the Solidarite et Action pour Les Enfants de Sion, Home (SAES). By September 2010, the SAES Home housed 21 children with the majority coming from the Azile Communale, an overcrowded open air structure, occupied by the poorest of the poor in Mirebalais.
The Haiti Micah Project is a Christian organization committed to addressing the needs of over 500 impoverished and uneducated children in Haiti. It began in 2005 in response to the challenges identified by the community leaders in Mirebalais, Haiti, a city located in the Central Plateau.
In October 2006, the Haiti Micah Project joined its partner in Mirebalais, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, to meet the needs of children on the streets of Mirebalais and children and families at-risk in the community.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Staring with 150 children, our mission provides food, clean water, health care, education, vocational training and emotional well being for each child. Each day we walk the streets of Mirebalais to reach out to the homeless and hungry children. By providing life-saving essentials and educational opportunities.
Currently, there are 27 children living in the home. They receive 24 hour care by a staff of six adults including an English tutor. The children attend St. Peter’s Episcopal School.
The children are thriving in their new environment and responding well to the loving care of the staff. Many have significantly improved their academic skills, have dreams beyond high school, speak several languages, and are at the top of their classes.
The Haiti Micah Project is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation.
We are registered with the Haitian government under the name Solidarite et Action pour Les Enfants de Sion or Solidarity and Action for The Children of Zion.
