The Annual meeting will be
December 7, 2008. Since you are a representative or chair of your
committee or post the vestry is asking you to make a written report
as part of its permanent record. Please answer the questions
below and send them to me (Fr. Jim May) by November 25th
(preferably by e-mail).
“The mission of St.
Paul’s Parish is to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ through
worship, outreach and education.” Using the above mission statement
please answer the questions below.
The mission of the Organ Committee
is to develop and execute a plan to restore and preserve the current
pipe organ of St. Paul’s.
The 1970 era electrical control
is outdated, failing, and an electrical hazard. The upstairs organ
chambers were not restored with the rest of the church. Mold,
moisture, and neglect will soon end the life of our pipe organ if immediate
steps are not taken. Our goal is to finish with an instrument
that will last another hundred years and continue to glorify God through
music in our religious services. A stable instrument will also foster
outreach to our community through area musicians, organ lessons and
concerts.
St. Paul’s Organ Committee stood up in April of 2008 comprised of Jeannie Richardson, Anne Knowlton, Bob Griswold, Andy Knowlton and Mike Shippee. Associate members are Steve Malyevac (Finance) and Chuck Gleason (Junior Warden)
-Four formal meetings were held this year for organization and education.
-Six organ consultants were contacted and queried. A decision to was made to forgo a consultant based on a limited budget and consultant advice.
-Invitations to bid were mailed to twenty different organ builder/refurbisher companies throughout the US and Canada. The companies contacted range from world class builders to local establishments. All of these companies came highly endorsed by other churches, professional organizations and organists.
-Ten
consultations/tours were held with a wide variety of organ builders/refurbishers.
We are eagerly awaiting their proposals.
The Organ Committee needs your
prayers and assistance. We look forward to a busy 2009 where we
will collect, grade and prioritize the outstanding bid proposals.
We will then begin a congressional education program and our capital
campaign. Lastly, with the guidance of our Vestry, we hope
to sign a contract and begin work. A project of this scale will
not be accomplished in months, but more likely in years. We would
welcome any volunteers who would like to join our team and help with
a truly rewarding endeavor (No musical/organ building experience necessary).
